Weekly Chat - a day late

Yesterday was a busy day - what with errands and an epic eclipse. So, I'm doing catch-up today. The end of last week saw me rearranging furniture and getting ready for my daughter's visit this weekend. Thank goodness for Ibuprofen because I certainly overdid it. This week, I want to clean those places you tend to ignore until you know someone else may see it, so I'm taking it a bit at a time. So, here goes - an abbreviated Weekly Chat.

DATE: April 9, 2024

WEATHER: 56 degrees and rain. We're supposed to have rain here off and, on all week, but sunny on the weekend.

READING: I just finished "Widows and Orphans" by Susan Meissner last night and will begin this today.
I was given this book by a dear friend, and I've been looking forward to starting it.

I'm also reading slowly through "The End" by Mark Hitchcock.

FUNNY OF THE WEEK:

PONDERING:
  • The Epic Eclipse: Our area was to have 88% totality yesterday. However, rain and clouds obscured it. Some areas near me had a break in the clouds but not here. It did get darker though. A Bible teacher I follow did a live stream from his backyard during the eclipse. He was in the path of totality, and it was amazing to see how dark it got.
  • Working on a food program to try to reduce my blood sugars without taking on another medication or (worse) insulin.
  • Looking forward to a relaxing and lovely visit with my daughter this weekend.
  • Some issues I'm praying about and trusting God to give me direction.

QUOTE:

SCRIPTURE:
"And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth
distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring."

PRAYING:
  • For our nation will turn back to God
  • For salvation for loved ones and friends
  • For Israel
  • For my heart and mind to be pliable to what God wants of me,
I really didn't intend to end this post like this but everything around me....the news reports...the general apathy towards God that I see....even signs in the skies, tell me that we need draw closer to the Lord - more than ever before.

Have a great week, my friends. You probably won't see me here until next week. There are some cobwebs and dust bunnies to attend to!

Friday Fave Five

On this rainy, thundery Friday morning, I want to pause to remember all the blessings that have come my way. Some of my friends record their blessings daily in a journal. I think that's a great idea and I may just do that. But for right now, I'm so thankful for our "get-together" every Friday to share how we are so very blessed. Come join us! And thanks to Susanne at Living to Tell the Story!

1. Warm weather: We've had days this week when it was in the 70s. I've opened windows and enjoyed the fresh air coming through. Here in Tennesse though, spring arrives for a day or two and then leaves for a day or so. They've even named various "winters" that seem to arrive right no schedule.

Redbud winter - early April
Dogwood winter - late April
Locust winter - early May
Blackberry winter - mid May
Britches winter - late May

This next week, we have a touch of "Redbud winter" with high 20s at night.

2. Scriptures promises: In these days of turmoil and unrest, it's wonderful to find treasures in my Bible. I read that the Bible contains approximately 8000 promises. Here is one of my favorites:
Hebrews 13:5

3. A family emergency: Not typically a blessing but situation that could have been worse. My daughter-in-law flew down to Florida yesterday to help her sister and mother after her mother took a nasty fall. What looked very bad at first, ended up being a dislocated elbow and pinky finger. She's black and blue and sore from the fall and surgery to her arm but she's recuperating. This lady has had medical emergencies - one on top of the other - but she's come through them all.

4. Knitting coming along: My daughter is a voracious knitter. She can't go a day without picking up her needles. I, however, will go several days without working on my project. But it's coming along.
I'm not sure if this will turn out to be a scarf or shawl. Hopefully, it will be done by next winter!

5. Mom: I have one more emotional hurdle to overcome this month. It will be 7 years this coming Sunday that she entered heaven's gates. The blessing is not in that fact, but that she was a blessing to me. The last 10 years of her life, she lived with me. We settled into life together with only minor arguments - us both being strong ladies. I was thankful that she was near me and safe. Mom was a strong lady, highly opinionated but willing to do anything and everything for those in need. She embraced the Messianic Jewish faith and she called Jesus - Yeshua. In the last years of her working life, she managed a travel agency and, in that capacity, took many cruises and even took a trip to Hawaii. She loved life! My love of music and reading come from her. It's because of her that I'd rather listen to the likes of Frank Sinatra, Harry Belafonte, and Mel Torme than the newest musicians and singers. I still have packed away many of her books, some of her "Gone With the Wind paper dolls, and even sketches she drew of celebrities when she was a teenager. I miss her but my comfort is that she is healthy and well and I will see her again.

I hope everyone is looking forward to a lovely weekend. Easter is coming soon and hopefully spring will eventually come and stay, just in time for summer to begin!

Weekly Chat

DATE: March 11, 2024

WEATHER: A chilly 29 degrees but by Wednesday it will be 76. There's frost on the windshield of my car. I'm prepared for the week though - I have my warm socks or flip flops, hot chocolate or iced tea, sweats or shorts and a t-shirt. Bring it on!

READING: "The End" by Mark Hitchcock. If you enjoy Bible prophecy, this is THE book to read). Also beginning "Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austin. I've never read this classic. It's time I do.

FUNNY OF THE WEEK:

THANKFUL FOR: The comforts of home.

A PEEK INTO MY LIFE:

My mother, Halsey Jean Borst. Today would have been her 97th birthday. She graduated to heaven 7 years ago - 1 week after her 90th birthday. She was a remarkable woman, full of life and courageous in what she believed in.

PONDERING: Prayer needs for those around me and around the world.

QUOTE:

SCRIPTURE:
Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be
content in whatever circumstances I am.
Philippians 4:11

Wishing you a wonderful week full of possibilities and good things.

Weekly Chat

A

DATE: January 29, 2024

WEATHER:  It's 38 degrees this morning and we'll be having some cold temps this week but nothing like "that other week." It's been a bit windy which makes it feel even colder. But no precipitation in sight - at least so far.

BOOKS I'M READING: The Gospel's Power and Message by Paul Washer and At Home in Mitford by Jan Karon

I'M THANKFUL FOR: Milder weather and things getting back to normal.

CURRENTLY KNITTING: Right now, nothing. But I'm going to be starting a scarf with an intricate lace pattern. With the help of my daughter. Stay tuned.

DULCIMER PROGRESS: I am taking three workshops this Friday and Saturday online during QuaranTune Winter Fest. Two workshops I'm thinking are a bit advanced for me, but I get a follow up video of the workshop to work on it later.

A PEEK INTO MY LIFE:
Meet my new great granddaughter - Samantha Dawn. She is one week old. So precious! I hope I can hold her soon.

WHAT'S ON MY MIND: I have several people/situations that are on my mind. When I find myself beginning to worry, I have to remind myself that God has everything under control. I've found that when I give my problems over to God, I can often see that God has been working on it already.. Not always immediately but in His timing.

QUOTE: Sometimes we worry too much about the outcome of things in our life that we don't stop and realize that God has already taken care of it.

SCRIPTURE: "Take therefore no thought for the morrow for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof."    Matthew 6:34 KJV

"Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble."   NKJV

I memorized this verse in the King James and that's the only way I remember it!

Wishing everyone a wonderful week!

A preview

I've been thinking of my Monday posts. I used to participate in A Simple Woman's Day Book  but it looks like she's no longer posting there. I also have done a few posts with a format my friend Dianna created. But I remember posts I used to do years ago called Weekly Chat. So, I decided to make my own "Chat" and will post every Monday.

Stay tuned!

Hello, October!

I do love fall! Our temps have been "fall-like" the last week or so and today we have some light rain (courtesy of Ian). I'm in the mood for chili and I plan to visit a store or two and get some more fall decor.

Apollo is watching out the window, waiting for the leaves to change. That will probably happen in a couple weeks.

Last night, after reading of all the devastation in Southwest Florida from Hurricane Ian, it was so lovely to walk out my front door yesterday evening to see this.

Fall has just arrived and already I've got Christmas on my mind. I bought a new tree for this year - a pencil thin one that will fit better in my small apartment. Our local thrift store - KARM - has opened up their yearly Christmas store in what was originally a Whole Foods store, - so it's big! I think I'll make a stop there this today.

I've been busy with a crochet hook and yarn with two great grand babies due to enter this world in November as well as a Christmas gift for someone.

I've also been evaluating life related to my health and the worsening diabetes. Recent lab work has not been good and I'm looking for recipes and working on menus. I'm not a planner when it comes to things like this, but I need to be now. I'm not letting this dreadful disease get me down.

I hope all is well out in blogland. My prayers are for those who have been so gravely affected by Ian. I've been 5 years living in Tennessee, but my heart is still in my former home state.

Happy weekend!

Taking a very short break. . .

Hey there! I'm just checking in here. I'm taking a short blog break this week. Nothing wrong - just a lot I need to give my attention to. I thought I'd give a quick rundown of what's been going on this past week.

READING: Just read The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway. It was by recommendation, and it was a short book. It certainly is a classic, but I found myself exhausted reading about the struggles of this old man. Mr. Hemingway certainly has a way of drawing right into the story.

HOBBIES: I'm about to start a crocheted baby blanket for a great granddaughter coming in November. I've had a couple false starts and it hasn't been coming together. I'm better off with a simple single crochet when I have time constraints.

VIEWING: Just finished the complete series of Poirot with David Suchet. Riveting mysteries although I thought they were a bit lighter in the beginning. The later series were a bit dark.

WEATHER: Hot....Hot...and more Hot. We have rain chances every day this week which does bring down the temps a bit.

Not much else to say. Have a great weekend, everyone. I'll be back next week.
